APRS RT73 Causing Reboot on PTT

I suspect I'm doing something wrong with my codeplug setup for Analog APRS but no idea what.
Problem is that on PTT the radio will crash/power cycle instantly if I am using the GPS receiver location. Once it comes back on, PTT will do the same again but on the 3rd crash, the RT73 stays powered off. I presume this is some watchdog shutdown once it sees the 3rd crash.
Occasionally, it does work, but this is very rare and totally unpredictable. It does not stay working long and will then go into the reboot/shutdown.
Setting a manual location does seem to work, but is pretty much defeating the purpose of APRS.
I see from other comments here that people are reporting getting it working and I've tried following multiple suggestions, setting screenshots etc., but I just cannot get it to work so I'm suspicious I'm doing something wrong in the codeplug rather than it being a radio issue. (I have tried with 2 RT73 radios with identical results)
Everything I find where people show an APRS setup (including here) never makes any reference to the crash behaviour, so if it was some firmware or radio fault, I would have expected to see it mentioned at least occasionally. Somehow I seem to be unique in having the problem which really suggests the problem is on my side but I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
Firmware has been updated to 300UV/909E.D64.EARSAB.018 dated 2022-DEC-01 (tried various but results are the same with all I tried).
