Got the answer from Radioddity support.
To get in the DFU mode on the DB40-D you hold down the upper right programmable button (the one that looks like a horizontal telephone handset) and press the power button at the same time

How to get DFU mode for DB40-D
Can't write to my radio. The directions given (hold down PF1 or PF2 while turning the power on) do not work to put the radio in DFU mode. How do I get the DB40-D into DFU mode?
The MM7DBT editor is able to read the radio.
